A few months ago I was in Mexico City at a networking event organised by Cartoon.
In the afternoon break I took the subway to the Central Square to look at the Diego Rivera murals in the National Palace. As I emerged from the subway I saw some murals of a completely different nature. Artwork by Wales’ finest animator was plastered all over the public lavatories. I was amazed! Of course, I had seen animation artwork displayed in public lavatories before, but only on the inside. Was Mexico a place where animation art received the respect it was due?
The toilets were sponsored by Charmin, and featured artwork from the commercials created by Joanna Quinn at Beryl Productions in Cardiff. The idea of sponsored public conveniences may seem strange to us, but could open up a host of possibilities for animators. What next? Toilets sponsored by SuperTed, that only flush if you know the secret magic word? Toilets sponsored by Spiderman that are fixed to the ceiling? Or sponsored by “Cars” with a seatbelt and five gear flush?
Your suggestions here, please.
There's an interesting Tender opportunity that's been released for an interactive map to be hosted on the London 2012 Olympics website.
It would be exciting to explore any opportunitities for Welsh design, animation and web talent to come together and perhaps bid for this under a single entity?
Let us know your comments on either this page, the WAM! Facebook page or via Twitter.
You can read the tender document below.
